The problem could be that KDM holds the console/framebuffer until it has died/killed by init. Which would not allow splashy's libdirectfb to use the framebuffer. Another problem might be at your /etc/rc6.d/K* scripts level. Make sure that /etc/rc6.d/S01splashy-init and /etc/rc6.d/K01splashy-init
