First, thanks to Amaya for tagging the bug.
Second, I now have an package based on upstream 9.53. The source package
is available at http://www.imalip.info/amaya/ , for those who want to
test/check it and possibly upload it, which would be nice
This issue does not seem to appear in the latest upstream version,
9.53, released on 12 December.

Thanks for the details. I tried it and didn't get the same problem as
you, , but still got some strange things. Attached is the result file
after simply adding a carriage return and a space, which contains some
funny characters, and is definitely a bug.
