err, ipw3945 requires a binary-only daemon.

How is the iwl* license different from the old ipw*? It's the same story:
firmware is binary-only, the rest is GPL:

Yes I know perfectly. But it works better than iwl3945 for now. Until
iwl3945 reaches the stability level of ipw3945 why you can't leave it?
Encouraging more people to use iwl3945 is really good for it's
development, as more people will find bugs.
This is only, my opinion, perhaps.

because ipw3945 is binary-only shit and dead upstream, just to name two
things.

I don't think you should drop ipw3945 support completely, as it still compiles
for 2.6.24 kernel with the patch that can be found here:
http://archives.free.net.ph/message/20071223.025752.89232a4d.it.html
The default should become iwl3945, but please leave at least for a while
ipw3945. iwl3945 i

no problem, so am i :) although iwlwifi is sometimes still a bit buggier
than the 'old' ipw3945. but that will hopefully change soon.

Oh!, I wasn’t aware of that new driver. Cool to get rid of that ugly
(and not free) regulatory daemon
