my email refers to the change log for version wicd (1.5.7-1) which is the
current version in sid:

Not your email which refers to version 1.5.3, which hasn't been released in
Debian:

- added Conflicts: network-manager (Closes: #509051)
I actually use wicd and network-manager at the same time, they do co-exist ok
and you shouldn't force a Conflict!
