I agree. Thanks for the note. I think I should do this when moving
from the self contained tightvnc-java package to the package with
the normal tightvnc package source instead.

The tightvnc-java package in debian, like the vnc-java package (see bug
#445338) doesn't support the ZRLE encoding scheme which is now the
default with current VNC implementations. There is a newer upstream
package that fixes this
