Did you manage to test it?
Since I ran into the problem I have replaced my old Squeeze laptop with
a Wheezy one, and I just tested in Wheezy.

it here in the hope that you consider installing it by default. :)
I'm setting severity to grave, as this make the package useless and can
cause data loss when I have to power off the machine and leave the file
system in an inconsistent state.
I forgot to mention that I am using Wheezy on the host, so the
virt-manager/kvm/qemu versions are from Wheezy.

No idea about the cause, but I know this issue is already requested in
BTS report #484010 from 2008. Given the number of open bugs, I guess
the cause is lack of manpower. :)
