on fmtools (i had to install it manually) and then i get the same error:
Setting up texlive-base-bin (2007-9) ...
Running mktexlsr. This may take some time...
It works for me on lenny (up to date) but not on sid (up to date too).
I tried to build 1.51 from the sources and it works well on sid.
