I updated the git repository with the upstream patch that I mentioned in the Ubuntu bug, the FTBFS is fixed with it but autopkgtest is still failing. As Reinhard mentioned in the Ubuntu bug, autopgktest seems to always fail in Debian for some years, so I do not know if this would be a blocker.
