Michael, Yes that actually worked, downgrading accountsservice and libaccountsservice0 to testing version fixed the problem. In the process I had to reinstall gnome-session gnome-shell gdm3 gnome-control-center but so far it all seems to be working great! Thank you for your quick assistance,
