There's been some discussion of package announcement file format
recently. I have some observations on matters relating to this.
Observation #1: There are disconnects between package announcements
and the availability of packages in the distribution.

Well, I've decided to return to Matt Porters' previous split between
minicom and lrzsz.
One side-effect of this is that I need to make the updated lrzsz package
conflict just with minicom-1.71-[1..2] (the ones that included lrzsz). I
can't seem to make it do so. I've tried specifying:

The a2gs postinst uses /etc/papersize if it exists or asks the user for
the default papersize and writes this to /etc/papersize.
The TeX postinst needs this information too, but it can't rely on an
installed a2gs. This means code has to be duplicated which could result

There are two things here: the Changelog format and the announcement
format. I think it is probably valuable to separate them.
The announcements should contain the Changelog entries since the last
announced version, and they also need to contain the MD5 checksums,
filenames and file sizes.
