After getting in touch with Michael Shields [EMAIL PROTECTED], the
current maintainer of netcat, I've decided to make a non-maintainer
release of netcat with the version 1.10-3.1. It should let us close all
the distribution-specific bug reports for that package:

take a few hours to complete.
I changed the patch a bit more. I added the following lines to the
control entry for libc5-dev:
Conflicts: libc (4.6.27-11), libc-dev

Actually, I'm not sure there is a problem with libc5-altdev. There definitely
is a dependency clash between libc5 and libc6, which David Engel thinks we
should patch by producing an upgrade for libc5. This will have to be installed
before hamm. It's not yet clear to me that we can make this

with any luck, and we can then set deadlines.

There was an error in the source. A struct was referenced after it was freed.
I am surprised that it worked on libc5. It should have segfaulted with that.
