Trying to install slink from an uncompleat mirror (hamm was missing) I faild
because dselct/dpkg missed all the packages which were only pointers back to
hamm.
touching these files it complained that all had a wrong size.

full screen mode. I suspended with ^Z, grabbed the missing file,

For several months I have had a problem with dselect, which I usually run
under screen. Often, (about one in two times) after having [I]nstalled
files, the dselect process stops, as if I had pressed ^Z. Here is a screen

As I suggested before, dselect currently has a method 'install from a pile
of floppies' and the same should be implemented for CD's. This would allow
CD sets of varying sizes to be created.

While using dselect to install the following packages:
bash_2.01.1-3.1.deb
libreadlineg2_2.1-10.1.deb
I get the following error from the Install step in dselect,
internal error - no filename at -e line12, chunk 18.
I am having trouble figuring out whether there's a workaround through the

installed, and when I was ready doing my
selections dselect bailed out with the following error message:

installations script returned error exit status 1.
Any idea what could be going wrong?

I did a new install of hamm at the weekend for/with a newbie. One thing
that would make dselect easier to use with CDs is some help as to what the
name of the CD device is, similar to the choices given on the boot
floppies.

of new and updated packages with dselect, and then tried to install them
using ftp, the ftp failed for some reason or other, but rather than regard
my system as not having installed
