Does this bug still apply to you? If so, what happens if you start
tkmixer with tkmixer -m /dev/sound/mixer ?

tkmixer runs fine, and I believe I have a standard configuration on my
system. Probably the following line fixes the issue:
/etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat.conf: install snd-mixer modprobe
--ignore-install snd-mixer $CMDLINE_OPTS { modprobe --quiet snd-mixer-oss ;

[EMAIL PROTECTED] (or otherwise gets bugs for tkmixer) and
doesn't want to be.
