new one. AFAIK there never was a sparc 32 bit box with an EEPROM.
Personally, I once bought a ready made EPROM on ebay and upgraded my SS20

Problems to look out for: the silo size limit on *uncompressed* kernels,
missing/wrong whole disk partition 3, /boot partition over 2 Gig.
BTW: you should be a bit more patient on public mailing lists.
