"unmount" syncs. And you should un-mount the disk before removing it,
unless you happened to be using mtools to access it. I don't know anything
about mtools.

i am having some problems mounting a remote file system on my computer.
i have PPP up and running and am having no problems with it, but when
i try and mount a remote file system i get an "unknown file system error"
the command i am using is
mount prophet4.unl.edu:/usr1/user5/nhood /disks/prophets
It seems the "tifftopnm" and "pnmtotiff" programs are missing from
the latest netpbm. What happened to them?

What you want is to set COLORTERM. Slang uses this to detect if the terminal
supports color, instead of trying to use termcap, becuase the author thinks
that termcap/info are too

Why do you want to run SVGATextMode anyway? I ran it once and it was more
trouble than it's worth. The only good of it is to make more lines on the
screen, and you can set your kernel vidmode to EXT for that (50 line

fine with colors. Why not change to rxvt?

If you don't know the irq just leave it out and see if it works. You can also
try the insmod utility from command line with something like:
