I just install Debian 1.3 on a fresh system and set XDM to load on startup
like I have done before. But XDM isn't allowing me to logon using root or
my normal account. It just tells me that the password is incorrect. Does

1. Put the "export XAUTHORITY=~paul/.Xauthority in your
.bashrc file. When you su to another user the XAUTHORITY
environment variable still exists! Works fine.

You probably have 'set -a' in /etc/profile or some of your bash startup files.
For some reason 'set -a' causes this problem. It's also reported as bug #8390.
The only cure I have is to remove 'set -a' from the startup files and
logout/login again.

Thats the problem, Netscape will only make it available through a web page
using a cgi that checks where you are (to make sure your in the US).
The program is offered up as 'promise.cgi', not the real file name.
I'm going to check it out today, see if it works.

There is a commercial product for Linux from Chorous Systems
called COOL. I've just downloaded it for evaluation but
haven't had time to actual use it yet.

I've been trying to compile the FidoNet package ifmail. Ifmail uses
ndbm for its database routines and I have gdbm installed in my 1.3 setup
which I believe satisfies the ndbm requirements (but me knowing little C
and even less about *dbm makes me real shaky:-).
