FWIW, If I select ramdisk0 install instead of the default, it seems to come up

I am doing a clean install on a 486 w/20Meg and Buslogic SCSI w/3 400MB drives.
Booting from floppy (resc1440.bin) looks ok until it tries to mount the RAMDISK:
RAMDISK: Compressed image found at block 0
invalid compressed format (err=2) [MS-DOS FS Rel. 12, FAT
0,check=n,conv=b,uid=0,gid-0,umask=0
As you suggested (THANK YOU), Marcus, I got 0.4.2c and it correctly
detects size of memory on soundcard:
AWE32-0.4.2c (RAM4096k)
Install was trivial, identical to 0.3.3e in the awe-drv package, just an
install.sh script to call and then rebuild the kernel (of course every
step is explained)

Considering how much space is already wasted on irrelevant

I downloaded the .31 kernel and tried to do a make menuconfig and got the
following:

( cd include ; ln -sf asm-i386 asm)
make -C scripts/lxdialog all
make[1]: Entering directory /usr/src/kernel-source-2.0.31/scripts/lxdialog'

Alright, after being flamed to a crisp...
I realize I shoudln't have sent that message to the list, perhaps
a brief snip and a pointer to it at most would have been appropriate.
I'm sorry for the wasted bandwidth; it won't happen again.

Hi!
I have a little problem with ip_masq.
It's allmost working ... clients on the network can access hosts outside
the LAN if they type the hosts ip instead of the domainname. I can access
hosts via. domainnames from my linux box. I use dhcpd to send info about
ip-number, default gateway, netmask

Hi!
I'd like to know if there is any good free application for preparing
of presentation graphics available in Debian distribution.
Such functions as bar charts, pie charts, scatter plots, line charts,
"whisker box" (for presentation os standard deviation) and so on are
necessary.

I'm currently thinking about making the move to debian.
I've been using Caldera Network Desktop, and now Caldera Open Linux, for a

Hi,
After installing 2.0.31-pre10 a few days ago I started getting these

rs_close: bad serial port count; tty->count is 1, info->count is 2
04:40 looks after the modem and there is no mouse on ttyS1.
