I have `deb file:/var/cache/apt/archives unstable main contrib non-free'
in sources.list, and all the .deb files I wanted in /var/cache/apt/archives
(not in directories under that for text, utils, etc; all in one dir). It works
ok, and in that directory I also have the subdirs
dists/unstable/main

mount man pages hint at it being the same as an nfs mount but I

Hm, can you be more specific? Have you installed the packages
man-db and manpages?
You can check with 'dpkg -s ' (sustitute
man-db and manpages for ).

You have to install the man-db package. This packages provides the man
command. Also install the manpages package.

I was fortunate enough to receive an IBM Thinkpad 380Z this week. The
machine will dual boot NT and Debian.
However, I had little luck with the boot disks. resc1440.bin would do
the looping reboot. resc1440-fast.bin would freeze after decompressing

user "www-data", but createuser says "illegal
character in user name".

this same message when trying to start X. I think the install
script has a glitch or something. Anyway, after booting up you
can start the font server manually from the init.d directory.

Apparently emacs19 was causing problems with menu. I discovered this by
using update-menus at which point I got an error about emacs19. So I
reinstalled hamm again without any emacs and WindowMaker has the expected

man: can't open the manpath configuration file /etc/manpath.config

I just found that Powerquest released their partition magic 4.0 and it
now supports the Linux ext2 filesystem. It can resizes Linux partitions
now:)

OK, up and running. 800x600 works, 640x480 is completely messed up
(tiled screen). I simply removed that resolution from the XF86Config
file.
Unfortunately, X uses the "vga16" driver, not "svga" or "accel".
Therefore I get a color depth of 4bit, though the card could handle
16 or 24bit at 800x600.

I have created a linear drive on my system out of three
partitions. I have done all the necessary steps for it to work (mdcreate
basically and then format...)
The problem I get is that while on the bootup process the device
get configured but it doesn't run. It tells me this:
I have a S3 Trio V64+ with 2Mb ram but I can't config my display, it
always use XF86_vga16 and don't use the XF86_S3 so I uninstall the
XF86_vga16 then my XF86Setup is missing...
