I have a D-Link 530 card using a compiled-in via-rhine driver as eth0. The card is talking to an identical card in a computer that runs FreeBSD. I'm seeing collisions on the Linux side of the link, and am wondering what parameters I should pass the kernel to force the card into Full-duplex 100base

Use XF86Setup, it's MUCH easier. If it's not installed on your system (can't remember if it's a separate package in 2.1 or not), then you can find it in dselect under xf86setup or do an apt-get install xf86setup. I've never had a problem with the config file from this program, and without seeing

With the advent of apt-get and cable modems, it appears I no longer have to back up every file on my machine. In particular, things like debian packages can be easily retrieved after a crash, provided that the appropriate status files exist. Presumably these are files in /var like /var/lib/dpkg/
