Just fill up the /etc/hostname file with the full name of the computer.
For instance, normally the file /etc/hostname contains just
"mycomputer", and the network name is appended by looking in the
nameserver or the IP resolver. If the network is down, this cannot be
done.

I downloaded ALSA and configured it (using ./configure), but when doing "make" it says "

1. A bootable-CD Linux, say Kanoppix or Gnoppix or Morphix.
2. Compiling a kernel that has NO APM or ACPI support. If this
doesn't lock up, it's strong circumstantial evidence that your

Found the solution. I went to the network settings GUI and unchecked "activate
when the computer starts" in the properties menu for the ethernet LAN card
(eth0). I don't have a network at home, but had used a network while at an
out-of-town office.

You certainly want to try to upgrade to the 7664 drivers, as there are at least

I used to set my own xterm titles, but after the recent upgrade, the
title of my xterm and rxvt are changed to [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/pwd.
How can use back to my own? (I think some system files have been changed,
I didn't do any relevant changes before and after the upgrade).

Seems to be backscatter off that address' filter - viral e-mails most
often have a fake (not the originator's) return address.
Simply delete and notify that address' admin to stop that - (s)he can
just as easily catch and destroy.

My /dev/md0-Boot-Raid-1-Partition always degenerates while booting (or maybe
while shutdown?). I don't know where to find the error. Maybe someone can
