I assume Peter is having ppp on one end login to the other end at the
login: prompt as the ppp user which starts up the pppd as the login
shell on the other end. That will result in two pp

Fun retro! :-)
What clues are found in the mgetty debug log file?

It's not clear what you are trying to do. For a PPP link you want pppd

PPP over a serial crossover cable between two machines.
If mgetty is started interactively by root, PPP works, including PAP.
I haven't found any effect when the mgetty command is in

In Debian it's customary to use getty for the serial console. That line
got the job done since etch was testing:

Traditionally, mgetty was started with a line such as this in /etc/inittab.
T0:23:respawn:/sbin/mgetty ttyS1
Not working in wheezy and this seems relevant.

Hi,
Since Mar 10th, I seem to have trouble installing Debian testing on a
virtual machine or a physical machine, always fails at step 'Partition
disk' with partman, it complains:
The attempt to mount a file system with type ext4 in SCSI1(0,0,0),
partition #1 (sda) at / failed.

Dear Pal, Dear Debian users,
Did you able to find something with this problem?
I have an RTL8192CU, but I'm not able to m make it work.
It's working as a client, but not as an Access point.
If I try to start hostapd with minimal config I got the following:

What other upgrades?
I'd be interested to know.
You do know that security fixes are backported,
Hi,
I have a strange behavior of iptables lately : all rules are cleaned up
after a few minutes.
iptables-persistent is installed and if I reboot just after restoring
all rules,
all rules are still loaded. But a few minutes later, they are all
cleaned up.
The same happens whenever I load them man
