Compiling coreutils from source

suppress document printing status window

On Debian Jessie xfce, every time cups prints a document, a printing status window appears in the upper right corner of the screen, telling me that the document has been sent to the printer, then another appears to tell me that printing of the document is complete. How can I suppress these
