What's the problem with fixed IP on a dial-up? Is your ISDN treated like
a modem? (I know nothing about ISDN) If so you could try editing the
/etc/wvdial.conf file and put the correct init strings in there

Have you tried the package wvdial that is in _some_ of the Debian
distributions? (Certainly in frozen).
Very easy to configure and it seems to work. IMO the ppp stuff is a
nightmare - before finding wvdial I had ended up with a one-line script
with all my ppp options in it as I couldn't get
JJ Win95 supports a Direct Cable Connection as an Adapter when you go
JJ properties. That said, I tried arduously to get this thing to work b

It needs, for some reason Netbeui NWLink bound to the Dial-up
Grab any Perl packages that are outstanding by FTP and then install
those using dpkg - that should fix it.
I had the same problem when upgrading.

on my system dpkg --help | less works fine. The person who had trouble
with it said it did not work for him/her. Now the problem would be because
their dpkg --help writes to STDERR and not STDOUT. In which
I've just recompiled the kernel (2.0.33) to include ipmasq support and I now
can't connect to the Internet via my PPP dial-up connection :(
If I ping www.debian.org then I get unknown host name and if I ping a x.x.x.x
address I get Operation not permitted
