support for lockd and the nfs code itself has been changed substantially. My impression is that it is not stable. We recently retired our Debian server for a Solaris server for this reason alone. This is a serious short coming in Linux. -- Jean Pierre

tried to use Linux as an NFS server for Solaris with mixed results. For READONLY it works fine. For READ/WRITE it is unreliable since the current Linux NFS server does not support locking. You may want to investigate the new 2.2.pre NFS since it now claims to support locking. Unfortunately, last I saw only client support was provided. -- Jean Pierre
