its almost as if they are devices? does anyone know if i can use the MAKEDEV

so im assuming a "raw socket" is a udp socket? and that you need root
priviledges for udp sockets? (simalar to why you cant run nmap udp scans
unless you're root).

Could the network card be straining when MRTG runs? nothing else on the
machine seems slow. (If i'm correct, MRTG uses UDP to query the SNMP agents?
Perhaps UDP on the machine is suffering because of the network card?)
