re you should find:

I don´t think that it´s actually required to explicitly add the route,
but then, I´m more familiar with cisco routers than with linux ;-)

some black-magic packet(s) to start ppp on the remote end? In my
experience this is often the case if you have a shell account where
you have to issue a "start ppp" or similar to fire ppp or there is
kind of a misconfigured tunneling (L2TP comes to mind especially)
which isn´t configured prope

change that much, you could move this file to /etc/cron.weekly or
something like that. Removing it would require you to manually run updatedb
prior to locate if you nedd accurate results...

I´ve checked all the configuration files I
could find, but to no effect.
The only other option I can think of is to apt-get remove fvwm95, apt-get
install fvwm95, but that would just be working on the symptoms, not the cause...
Any suggestions?

s ethernet cards, IIRC.
the driver will work with the 3x509b, just use the disk that comes with the
card and disable plug'n pray if you don't want to mess around with isapnp...
