I think it’s sarge. It has been quite a while since it was installed so the
details are somewhat lost but I think it was a full cd/dvd install.
Not sure if this tells you the version of the install or what a good way to
find out would be.
I am here to ask this question because I found some people in the local

I installed Debian on an old IBM Intel PII machine and added a TrendNet
TE100-PCIWN PCI ethernet card. It was recognized immediately and everything
worked fine (disregarding video card problems, but that will

I am a newbie of Debian. I tried to install the potato version of
Debian for like the nth time and still couldn't get my mouse worked. The
mouse doesn't follow my hand motion and moves erratically on the screen
in X. The protocol in XF86Config is PS/2 and the device driver for the

up in my logs, no port scans, no TCP/IP connections, nothing in my
Apache and proftpd logs.

Currently the only workaround I've seen is to rebuild ypserv with the new

Perhaps after an abnormal shutdown the files list file of dpkg was
damaged. Now I cannot dpkg -i or apt-get install anything. It complained
about dpkg: error processing the package I was trying to install :
files list file for package `libgnome-pilot0' is missing final newline. I
sources.list file, and then run apt-get again.

friend's system, there is something unusal happenes to his computer. When
he types emacs in xterm or one of the six virtual consoles, it just stops
and nothing happenes. He cannot kill this job by typing Ctrl-C. But

I am running PPP connecting to my ISP. However, after connecting, if I
leave the connection idle for about half an hour, the modem will hang up
itself which I do not really want. Can somebody point out to me how to
turn off this feature?

I am trying to install a Debian 1.3 system on my friend's computer.
However, I encountered a serious problem which I do not know how to solve.
