If you got the last bit of output, you're able to create binary files.
But probably something else is wrong, and we'll be able to help you
better if you give us the output of the last couple of commands that
fail.

I really should take alook at the debian kernel packagre some day!
L
That's another bug.
(BTW, questions about debian packages really belong in debian-devel,
but never mind).

Who needs a signature of 14 lines?
Footnote
[1] If enough people seriously and politely ask me for a libg++27-altdev
package, that's different. I may release that (libg++272 is basically
glibc, libg++27 is libc5, so the altdev package h
uot;yes" to ext2 in the "make config" stage?
Another option may be (I'm not sure) that you have SCSII disks, and
your kernel is apparently (dev 03:01) configured to load the first
partition on the first IDE disk. If so, change the "root = /dev/hda1"
statement in /et
libg++ stuff, you'll also have
to install libg++272-altdev, and I didn't make that package.
(I'm the libg++ maintainer).
If there is enough demand for a libg++272-altdev package, I'll release one,
though.

Note that due to serious shortcommings in dpkg-source, this may fail

Just make sure you've got the same libc6 (or libc5) version as
libc6-dev version installed. That probably fixes your problems.
(and, make sure you
slrn have been built with a later version?
Yes, slrn is fully libc6, whereas you don't have a libc6 capable
ldso installed (nor, do I think, do you have libc6 on your system).
Upgrad ldso to unstable, and install libc6.
Optional: check "dpkg -s slrn", and see if it does depend on
used as a template. Then your changes will stay
longer than "a couple of days", even if you upgrade packages during
those days -- nay, your changes may stay as long as weeks, months,
untill you get bored with them.
