ok, ethan. you've made some very good points on all counts.
i concede and have changed my knowledge base accordingly. :-)

ethan, i had another thought about this issue.
you claim that:
"my system finds System.map-kernelversion just fine."
i think that's inaccurate. looking over what you _actually_ said, i think
what you actually meant to say is:
"nothing seems to complain about not finding a Syst
actually, this is a really good point. i typically have a couple of
versions of each kernel i compile.
for instance, for awhile, quake3 was balking at the free OSS sound driver my
girlfriend was using, but not the 4front sound driver. so my quick fix was
to compile one kernel with sound and anot

that has to be the problem.
somehow, the wrong map is being loaded for your kernel. there's simply no
other possibility.
use ls to determine the last access time of each kernel and System.map pair.
make sure the right pair was loaded last time you rebooted the system.

i wrote a very nice piece on the System.map file. you can find it at my
personal website, along with other bits and pieces of linux knowledge:
http://www.dirac.org/p/linux/systemmap.html
what's most likely happening is that the System.map file that klogd is
finding is in /boot/System.ma

Are you ru
Is anyone else having problems with the latest test kernel
(2.4.0-test12)?
Every time I compile it and reboot, I get errors about the system map
not matching the kernel.
I don't have this problem with the test11 kernel.
thanks
