when trying to copy large files from my cdrom drive (mounted on /cdrom from /dev/hda) I get this error for each file: cp: reading `Scrubs 201 - My Overkill.avi': Input/output error this happens to all files over 3.1 or so meg. All files that it affects are truncated at 3145728 bytes p

I have a problem on a new installation trying to use abcde or XMMS. It seems that cdparanoia cannot access cdrom as user but can as root. I'm baffled because I can mount a data cdrom OK. My device is a scsi CDRW. I installed with 2.4.18bf2.4 and network install. dale@meridian:~$ cdparan

I am using Debian 3.0.0. I installed it with a 2.2.20 kernel which did not have scsi support. I later installed the 2.4.18 kernel and got support for my scsi cd burner but I have lost ability to read my ide cdrom. Here is my fstab # /etc/fstab: static file system information

I have purchased a full Debian 3.0 distro and am attempting to install Debian from a Gentoo installation. After placing Disk 1 into my CD read-write drive (TDK Model 32/10/40B) and getting into the base-config dialog, I am informed that the CDROM drive has not been detected. Upon exiting

Bob, Sorry, I think I misunderstood your situation. You have a CDROM and a CDRW. Your CDRW is actually a real SCSI device? I was thinking it was scsi emulation. If I understand this now, the ide CDROM should NOT be being pointed to the scd0 or anything else but itself. (You may actually have

lost ability to read my ide cdrom. I'd guess you have to load ide-cd ('modprobe ide-cd') by hand to see if /dev/hdc (or hdb or whatever your IDE CD is on) is recognized. What is the output of 'lsmod | grep ide'? If that works add ide-cd to /etc/modules. Cheers! Shyamal
