When i download via aptitude on textconsole, the progress bar shows around
(take a deep breathe) 5300B/s.
However, if i switch to some neighbour tty and go back, the value
immediateley is decr
again, no problems. So I now
believe it must be something else, e.g. serial problems, not modem/ppp
configuration.
I will maybe investigate the problem more some other day, in the mean
time I'm going to dial with my sid box.

in the .config that I knew I didn't need.
It boots MUCH faster now!!
But, my pppoe connection didn't come back up. plog (syslog) reports:

about ppp filtering in the kernel...does this may
have an effect or not?

I'm using Woody and my ppp connection is always terminated after 2 hours.
I just used pppconfig to configure the modem dail-up connection and
everything works fine.
I did not change anything in /etc/ppp/options, so that the ppp option
"maxconnect" should not be set.
ic-dns stuff. Please file a bug report
against pppconfig. Include copies of /etc/chatscripts/provider,
/etc/ppp/peers/provider, /etc/ppp/resolv/provider, and
/etc/resolv.conf.ppp.bak. Conceal any passwords.
Run pppconfig again, select 'Static' in the 'Configure Nameservers' screen,
