Hi, looking for help regarding PPP options.
I am using Sarge and my dialup has to reconnect several times before
actually linking to the internet. I was thinking maybe I need to add an
option (like I had to with "noauth".) I thought maybe some kind of ip
compression is confusing my dial up provi

Hi everyone!
I'm having a very strange problem with getting pppd to work for outgoing
connections. I have two ISA modems installed, on ttyS1 and ttyS3. I have no
problems on ttyS1, but on ttyS3, I cannot ping the remote server - I connect as
usual, get assigned an IP, etc. but I still cannot

It's been a long time since I used wvdial but I notice from an
old backup that I had a file /etc/ppp/peers/wvdial with a few
pppd options in it so I guess that wvdial could be

Did you recompiled the kernel? I think you might miss out some

Put 'kdebug 4' in /etc/ppp/options, try again, and post the result.

for some reason pppd doesn't work under the 2.4.1 kernel. I have a

Broken software at the other end, most likely. Just turn off compression.
It makes little difference over a modem anyway since the modem is doing
compression.

I recently set up a dial-in ppp server at work. It's running potato
and has two ISA 3Com modems plugged into it. Whenever I dial in from
home I see the following in the logs on my home machine (the one
calling):
Jan 29 16:08:34 raven pppd[2118]: sent [LCP EchoRep id=0x1

I continue to have trouble accessing web pages on my in-laws Slink machine.
I can telnet to machines (even to port 80), but I can't get lynx, netscape,
or kfm to browse web sites. I'm using mindspring and I have no proxies set.
I can connect to the same account on my machine and access web sites
Can someone tell me what I have setup incorrectly given this

Yes, but you shouldn't have to. It's a bug somewhere. The puzzlement is
that I have the same version of pppd as Bob does but I don't have the bug.

Hello, all. I have been struggling valiantly to get a user to connect to

Okay, first off... this message is VERY misleading. What this really means
is that the pppd was denied, and it's assuming that the kernel lacks support
for it.
