From what I see in the changelog of xserver 1.2.99.0, the input-hotplug
branch has been merged. So people might want to try xserver-xorg-core
2:1.2.99.901-1 currently sitting in experimental.

About 3 years ago, you reported a problem to the Debian BTS regarding
the backing store implementation being very slow. Did you reproduce this
problem recently? With Xorg/Etch? Does the problem still matter today?

Thanks for the follow up. The problem was only resolved by installing
driver package from Matrox. It overwrote the mga_drv driver within
the X libraries area, and then X

happens from times to times, but I couldn't draw a pattern (it doesn't
happen often).

IIRC, I removed it because it's not in the upstream tarball, which makes
it a pain to build from git.
