Hello,
You recently filed a duplicate bug report against Debian's XFree86
packages; that is,
I've put up a mirror of spotter's debs at
http://chunk.mp3revolution.net/~aaronl/x for two reasons. One, I want
to apt-get the debs, and the original site on columbia.edu did not
have a Packages file. I've corrected this locally on my mirror. Also,
I was only able to download from the primary site

Drugs are bad. You should value your intelligence and not waste it.

I recently had the pleasure of compiling X from CVS.
Here is a list of the patches I did NOT have to delete:

003_xfs-fixes.diff 200_alpha_GLX_align_fix.diff
005_rgb.txt_in_etc_X11.diff

Heh, and Alan Hourihane asked you to do it again today. :)
I noticed.
But Egbert disagrees with him
This hack makes the Radeon work on an AMD761 chipset. I've tested it
personally. It should suffice until CVS' real fixes eventually get
merged in.
For users of DRM, SCT's similar kernel patch at
http://uwsg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0109.1/0752.html may be
important.

Branden,
Can you please apply the patch at
http://creatis-www.insa-lyon.fr/~bellet/XVideo/trident.html? It
promisses to fix the problems I've been experiencing. I am downloading
the X source now to try applying it, and will let you know how it
works. I'm almost upset that this hasn't been

It doesn't even apply. Not close :-(.

This greatly improves 3D performance on my card (a voodoo3).
Of course, it's a bit annoying running X out of /usr/local, so... how
hard would it be to build

You obviously don't know Branden.

huge mess: most old X packages depend indirectly on libxaw6, the more
recently compiled

I've just experienced this bug and found the cause on my system.
mkfontdir was not installed, so the fonts.alias file was incorrect.
I suppose that mkfontdir should be moved from xutils to xfonts-base,
or xfonts-base should depend on xutils.
