libX11/XCB is only supposed to make some things a little slower, but we
never know, it could be somehow related to your lockup. So
ock-up, which required the big red switch.

Just to try out USB in linux I set it up on USB afterwards, and changed
my XF86Config-4 to try to use both devices (psaux and input/mice), X11
would just take
