You can reproduce the performance fall-off by using a slow network connection,
e.g. via IPsec and DSL and public Internet to a remote site. The "small numbers"
case was taken using a local network connection from one Linux PC to another.
Ping shows a round-trip time of 0.3ms for this local connect

Any news on this?
Motivated by #862706 I kicked out my nvidia graphics card in my PC
at home and gave Intel graphics a try, just to find out that I am
struck by this problem again. Even worse, startx doesn't work, either.
Installing and reinstalling xserver-xorg-legacy didn't help :-(.

screen remains entirely black. The backlight is on and the monitor
reports 640x480 75Hz via its builtin menu.
I don't see anything wrong in the log file other then that I'd hope to
get a higher screen resolution.

x11-xserver-utils back to version 7.2+3 (which worked
fine for Xorg 7.2), then I still get this problem.
Rolling back xinit to version 1.0.4-2 didn't help,

But
Metoo. It asks 3 times for the mouse device to use. After
the 3rd debconf menu it says that xorg.conf has been
customized, and that it won't touch it.
Good to know, But can't it check first?
Verified with xserver-xorg 6.8.2.dfsg.1-10 on amd64.

file to the version from 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1 or earlier.
