The FTBFS is fixed in a newer version of mkfontscale, so I'm proposing
to update it.
Because mkfontdir is now bundled in the newer version of mkfontscale, we

It seems that xdm version: 1:1.1.11-3.1 doesn't show this behaviour any
more. I was able to boot straight into xdm the last three sundays.

Hi,
I've submitted a patch as part of some MR[1] which will hopefully
uploaded soon. Meanwhile tagging the bug patch+pending and add
the patch here as well to be able to point upstream to some place.
