I've had this problem too, even from a clean install, my ~./local
directory (and all its contents) were owned by root.
Running sudo chown against this directory as explained above fixed the
problem for me?

I have the same problem on a Samsung X10 laptop.
I could not do a fresh install becuase the alternative installer could not
mount the cdrom despite booting from it to begin with.
After an online upgrade from Edgy I now have a phantom cdrom icon on the
desktop and no access to the real one.

I'm using two text files for my test. One is a shell script (named
rsync_update) located in a read only public share and a plain text file
(named TACF_Notes.txt) in a writable home share. File permissions are
as follows:
-rw--- 1 bshotts bshotts 303 Oct 1 09:11
The icon is not smaller it has lot of spaces around the drawing only:
/usr/share/icons/gnome/48x48/apps/gnome-grecord.png

Problem exists under 6.10 and 7.04. Did not verify under 6.0.6. Only
tested under x86. 6.10 and 7.04 have all fixes as of March 30th.

Thank you for your bug, rhythmbox has no stop action, it does use
pause which technically should make no difference. You can read
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=320047 about that. Closing the
bug, that's not one
