I made some experiments with some files having top running alongside and
ready to fire `pkill nautilus`: looks like I found a testcase to
reproduce this. Make a directory, put video file in mkv container
(matroska) into it (mv file to that directory with shell) and watch for
nautilus eating memory.
what version of gvfs do you use? could you run /usr/lib/gvfs -r on a
command line and try to connect and note what happens? The

Ubuntu 7.10. The escape sequence "Esc [ 1 8 t" is meant to make the
terminal reply with the height and width of the current window
characters. It's handled in vte-0.16.9/src/vteseq.c, line 3865. The
output on gnome-terminal is different to the xterm from xterm-229-1.

This is the result of pressing once Fn+Down and then pressing once Fn+Up in
hardy up-to-date on my dell m1330.
The visible effect however is going down and then up by two brightness levels.

levels are correctly scaled up and down one by one.

nautilus pops up an error, ftp doesn't.
