Same problem over here. Dragging files from one nautilus window to
another (or to/from the desktop) crashes the system. This occurs with
Ubuntu 8.04 and the latest updates as of today (4. June 2008). However,
if I turn off Desktop Effects, the problem goes away. Is it linked to
Compiz or not?

OK, I had already made that upgrade, but did not experience this issue. It
seemed to me, from my experience on the forums, that the upgrade to -17 caused
a lot of problems for people, but unless somebody can confirm this bug, we will
leave it as New. The reason we can't confirm it at this time

The upgrade I was referring to was the upgrade to 2.6.24-17.
Once I discovered the problem I rebooted and used the 2.6.24-16 kernel with the
same result.

Setting trash_icon_name key to type string and a value of "Trash", and
checking the boolean trash_icon_visible has got it fixed for me.
As to Sebastien's comment that the bug came about through incorrect user
changes, I'd only add that, like Monika, I hadn't altered any of the

Reply to an email when the context sensitive attachment helper dialog
will fire saying that it expects there to be an attachment with the
reply, and gives a "continue to edit" or "send" dialog. If you do not
have a saved password
Another workaround that seems to calm it down is to write your email,
send it, and then click the "Work Offline" button in the lower left hand
corner. Then click it again to Work Online, and your CPU usage should
be back to normal. Obviously this will be untenable if you keep an email
open all day

With trunk it causes Metacity to crash (it may well have done in earlier
situations too, since the session manager sees Metacity going down and
brings up another one, so crashes can be invisible). This is not a
happy situation. I'm escalating.

login and select your user
2) Delete files: rm ~/.gnome2/keyrings/*
When restart system, write the WEP password for your wifi and don't use

In my case, the one having the trouble had the trash icon displayed and
apps/nautilus/desktop/trash_icon_name set to be an integer value of 0.
Unsetting the trash_icon_name key fixed the problem. I didn't try with

Problem: hpijs doesn't support 1200 dpi, pxlmono doesn't support the
LaserJet 1320...
Question #1: What would be the required amount of memory to get the 1320

I have experienced this behavior on two systems running Hardy, but am
unsure of the trigger at present. It might have something to do with the
display being suspended (possibly though other means - on one of the
systems I have win+F9 rigged to run 'xset dpms force suspend' and

When typing, and moving a cursor, it doesn't disappear properly.
It disappears when the screen is refreshed, but not immediately, as it
does i.e. now when I'm reporting a bug.
This problem is only in Evolution.
