I'm getting something similar on a HP zd8000 with ATI Radeon x300. The

Is there a way to simply turn off gnome-keyring-daemon? If I did that,
what else would break? I can't find it in 8.10's "services" management
UI, so I don't know if a typical user can shut it down without some sort

Doing a bit of research I was able to find a workaround which works. I
found that deleting the ~/.config/totem/state.ini file will then
reinitialize totem's state and it should open up all subsequent files
properly. This worked for me and I was able to open files and

Special software: mactel repository with hal-applesmc and the adapted
gnome-power-manager
The gconf-editor has (AFAIK) two settings for the keyboard backlight, both in
apps -> gnome
I want to add some more details. First, the issue is not just the
different height but also the different quality. If you look closer at
the screenshots you will see that the font in gnome-terminal looks more
"dirty" and "noisy". This looks to me like if a different font rendering
engine were used

I use Evolution several months without problems. I have one imap connection
(gmail) and one connection with Microsoft Exchange (OWA).
After the upgrade to (ubuntu 8.10) my exchange inbox does not show up complete.
There are about 120 messages,
I have no problem watching streams via epiphany. Maybe someone can
provide a link to a stream with wich epiphany is crashing.
Ubuntu: 8.10 with Kernel 2.6.27-7-generic

Nautilus and eog are two different applications. Your assumption that
they share settings is not a safe one. However, in gnome-2.24, the
paranoid can use gconf-editor to set:
/desktop/gnome/thumbnail_cache/maximum_age
or
/desktop/gnome/thumbnail_cache/maximum_size
