Is this happening in Hardy up-to-date? Intrepid?
Please have a look in the logs and see if there is something related to
the crash, and post the related lines. Or attach the complete logs if
you like. Look especially in /var/log/syslog, /var/log/messages etc, and
also in .~/xsession-errors.

on my system it didn't crash when opening, but after setting zoom=125%
and trying to scroll. the fact that at 100% zoom this single-page
document fits on my screen might explain why it crashed on ilya's
machine and not on mine or florian's...

I can get this same reaction by scrolling in rhythmbox itself. I think
firefox is just incidentally related.
I see the same as a previous poster, scrolling using either the mouse
wheel or holding the scroll up/down buttons (so it jumps a few rows)
causes play back to hang and Xorg process (/usr/X

But it solved my problem.
The problem I had was that Cheese showed blank (no picture/video).
I don't know why you are lacking information. I can open the pdf file
properly in Windows while it become a total mass in Ubuntu, and it is a
problem by itself. When I try to use pdffonts to find out what are the
problem-making fonts, and it answers correctly, though the answer is
given in GB18030
This is another pdf file that cannot be open properly.

I have an nvidia card and am running Ubuntu 8.10. I also have this bug.
What I've found though is that the screen renders white -but my system
doesn't crash. In fact, if I enter my password, I log back into my
account and everything is totally fine: no rendering problems, no
functionality issues.
Just thought I'd add this:
I just tried locking my screen as User1. The screen-saver started
running. I hit ESC to exit the screen-saver and log back in. I was
prompted with the standard unlock login prompt (no white screen).
At this screen I chose "Switch User" instead of logging in. I was

on intrepid. No direct connection to the lid though. Resuming from
hibernate seemingly randomly results in the machine waking up and then
going right back to hibernate. never happens twice in a row.
