I was able to solve the problem by changing the fade mode setting on the
Fading Windows plugin so it uses the Speed setting instead of the Time
setting. I have no clue why it does this, but it solved the problem for
me.

The issue which g-p-m didn't solve was the full CPU usage which I can no

Oh, and if I then run 'xrandr --output LVDS --mode 1024x768', the screen
gets a pillarboxed 4:3 rectangle of grey (which I assume is 1024×768)
and does not display the desktop. Running gnome-display-properties at
this point will crash.

gnome-display-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in _start()
For me, the crash (assuming it's the exact same one) happens when I have
my laptop (Dell Latitude D620) in a port replicator, booted with an
external monitor on the port replicator and also with the lid open.

I ran gnome-settings-daemon, no output appeared, but no error either.
I then ran gnome-display-properties, select a new resolution, clicked Apply, an
nothing appeared to happen. I exited and then re-ran gnome-display-properties,
and the current resolution (not the newly selected one) was showing
I also have this bug on my Macbook Pro 4,1 (Santa Rosa) running Ubuntu
x86. F1/F2 keys and F5/F6 keys suddenly stopped working after last
week's updates. I can also confirm this same issue on the same hardware
with Ubuntu x64.
