But I cannot re-ionice any.
I would say this is a missing feature more than a bug, but I feel it's a big
miss as Linux supports io scheduling priorities

I've not seen the Jaunty release, so the following is just a suggestion.
Syntax highlighting should be based on the file mime type - likewise
when the syntax highlighting is changed the user should be prompted and
asked if they want to update the file type (such that the syntax
highlighting will

configuration or understand the layout description and how it's supposed
to work exactly

I get the same problem. In the dmesg log I have a segfault in the
gdm_greeter showing up.
As a temporary workaround, you can hit ctrl+alt+F2, log in with your
username and password, kill gdm and X manually, and then run "startx"
which will get you to a working desktop. The bug is with the greeter,
do you get the issue on a new account or guest user session?
