This problem comes from nothing. Killing gnome panel sometimes solves the
problem, but sometimes it cames freezed, and notting works. A restart is need.
Looks like it starts entering in an eternal looping and keeps loading resources
infinitaly in a deadlock.

Ubuntu 9.10; just did an in-place upgrade from 9.04.
Audio worked perfectly with 9.04. With 9.10, audio quality is scratchy,
and I can't get the same loudness as I could with 9.04. "Sound
Preferences" has my hardware listed as "Internal Audio /
GG... You are awesome! Thank you so much. This is all that was needed
to fix this problem, and as you said, by default it will change nothing.

I encountered this error when i was setting up my desktop system. Basically i
put auto login session so that i don't have to type in password every time. All
hell broke loose ;)
When i reverted to old settings (no auto logon) everything worked fine again..
Maybe it'll help someone.

Same problem here. I've always created two users with UID 501 and 502,
because these are the first UID created on MacOSX. And I need to
exchange some data between users on ubuntu and osX (double boot).
