On my laptop with fresh installation of Lucid, all updates, the white
square appears with more than 50% probability. On the other hand, on my
dektop, which was upgraded from Interpid to Lucid recently, everything
works fine...

For me lid close detection worked in 9.10 for Suspend, but did not work
when I just wanted screen light to be turned off (it stayed on). No
difference whether plugged or unplugged.
Now, after an upgrade (not new install) to 10.04, it stopped working on

Yesterday Gnome 2.28.2 (same version of Karmic, and older than Lucid)
was available on Gentoo. I emerged it, and Trash works as expected
there. So, as I supposed, this is not Gnome's fault. I hope now this
should be clear enough: please, fix this on Ubuntu

Ioannis, I had the same issue (Ubuntu 10.04 i386 here). What I did is
shut down Empathy, then look for telepathy processes. This shows what I
saw:
mymachine$ ps ax |grep telepathy

But since I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 I have to quit or kill my X
session (depending on the symptom) and log in again.

I confirm this bug is still present, it is really annoying, but it is easy to
solve, just run gdmsetup, unlock, and then plays with selects and buttons until
that file is created.
So gdm is happy and the warning disappear.

Ok so the issue I'm having now is that under my account, the iPhone
appears in rhythmbox as "Apple iPhone", however it only shows me the
movies/photos on it.
I created a new user account and opened rhythmbox as that user,
everything worked perfectly. Also, the iPhone appeared (correctly) as
