I can't stand the global menu. I've switched away from unity as a result.
As a developer, I constantly have a bunch of 'layers' of windows open.

I have found that sometimes icons in the sidebar are mysteriously
coalesced. For instance, I've had Chrome and gedit merge into a single
icon, and clicking it would bring up the windows for both. However, this

I noticed the attached log was for an nVidia based GPU, but I have the
same problem with an ATI based GPU, so I'm attaching my own log.

Also of interest, the active X session is on VT8 instead of VT7. (
Ctrl+Alt+F1 then Ctrl+Alt+F8 instead of F7)

After messing around with the patch some more, the issue I mentioned
above seems to be that the menu is being generated super-tall, then
shrunk back to size almost instantly. I somehow managed to get the
super-tall menu to stay open for both the Dropbox and Battery
indicators. Not as huge an issu
Same issue here, and switching to ugly "gnome classic no effect" does
the trick... but it's ugly! :(
