Wonderful: "sudo apt full-upgrade" pulled in the nvidia updates and
fractional scaling works, thank You very much everybody, this makes
working on my 4k monitor so much easier!
One small issue remains: The thumbnails of images and documents on the
desktop have wrong aspect ratios in all display sc
altough LightDM solve the login problem, it's not solution, becouse the
NIS user can not shutdown/reboot the computer from the gnome session.
so I switch back to gdm and try the nscd hint .. looks like this solve
both problem for me!

i see scrollbar and content is not wrapped while scrolling

it looks like it's more an issue of gnome-terminal, because the inner-
width is smaller while scrolling. Tested with git output which reaches
right border of terminal window, while scrolling it will be wrapped to
next line. afair in 18.4 i had modified scrollbars to be always visible
(not fading in

I did just want to add that it seems the update has affected the mouse
as well. Transitions between windows seems to occasionally disable the
mouse click momentarily. This is an issue in dragging and dropping,
