Also this reminds me of bug 1922540 whereby USB-C connection glitches cause the list of available modes to sometimes change, which in turn makes the system think a different monitor is connected, which means it won't recognise it as the same monitor with the same remembered settings as before. --

I am a bit unsure if I am experiencing the same error with gnome shell in 21.04 because the bug description is a bit vaque... Anyhow since 21.04 sometimes after I pressed the app grid button (or super+A) the panel, the dock and everything else EXCEPT the window previews in the overview disappear.
