this machine had on it was there any more (although perhaps not a
rhythmbox issue directly - the ~/music directory was gone and instead in
~/Documents there is a 'my music' f

Confirmed, I've been bitten by the password length limit. Thanks for the
pointer in the right direction, the special characters seem to have been
a red herring.

Taking a hint from your mention of maximum password length, I took a
look around at mine (as I use 20 character passwords by default). It
seems that when I paste a new password into the hotmail site, the entry
box cuts it down to 16 characters. I noticed this when I was changing it
to 16 characters
It's fine. Like I said, I'm not expected a quick response or immediate
solution. I'm just curious as to how this lines up against other things.
I fully expect there to already be things of a higher priority (and of
course real life).

machine was configured with timed login to log alan in after 30 seconds.
Machine boots to gdm screen, shows gdm simple greeter screen with machine name.

So the characters involved are # ] " ;
I also tried a password including | ^ ` ! ] \ , and that failed too. I
noticed that the ] is common between the two and removed that, it still
failed though.
Also tried using a password only contained lette
Have confirmed that the failing password does not fail in Pidgin or the
official Live client. My password includes special characters
(punctuation), could that be an issue?

I'm currently having the same problem, but with a @hotmail.com address.
I'm attaching the debug output from the butterfly connection manager and
the butterfly related parts of the debug log from empathy also. I know
they're largely duplicates, but maybe some of the unique parts are
useful to you?
I ran rhythmbox --debug &> rhythmbox-debug.txt as suggested and let the
machine sit for a minute or so after it stopped playing radio before
attempting to interact with it. The log file is quite long and gives the
impression that it was playing radio right up to the point where I
killed the applica
Problem seconded here with HP black and white printer (LJ4050).
Our network is set up so that we do printing via a server machine which
exposes some printers via CUPS. I am able to print any file type (at
least images, text files, postscript, and the test page) but not PDFs. I
get no output at all

This bug is old. It was fixed when Dapper was released, but it was
never closed for some reason. The machine that I was using has since
died. I would say close this bug for now. If it happens again I will
re-file.
